Kurdish Songs in Piano Music Composition

Abstract

 This study is devoted to investigating how the Kurdish songs are represented and improved within the piano instrument, concentrating on their adaptation across different musical forms and historical time. The main goal of this study is protecting Kurdish musical heritage while combining it into piano, causing innovative and engaging compositions. These works give pianists chances to seek different playing techniques and musical forms, presenting how Kurdish melodies can align with compositional practices from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Atonal eras. Additionally, the research positions Kurdish traditional music within a broader global music context.

 A total of fifty Kurdish songs were analyzed, with twelve selected for compositional development. This sorting out includes three original pieces and five traditional folk songs, all adjusted for piano. The adjustment is in several different formats, which include works for solo piano, piano four hands, and two pianos. Highlighting the adaptability and richness of Kurdish music through piano interpretation, thereby enhancing its visibility and relevance on the international music stage, is the main objective. These new compositions provide fresh standpoints and renewed vitality to Kurdish musical expression.
