The Sources of Kurdish Term Production Versus Foreign Terms

Abstract

This study, titled "The Sources of Kurdish Term Production versus Foreign Terms," falls within the field of sociolinguistics and aims to explore the latent potential of the Kurdish language in generating terms from its own linguistic resources. These indigenous terms align more naturally with Kurdish linguistic preferences. The research seeks to inspire a greater appreciation among Kurdish speakers for the richness of their language, emphasizing its extensive vocabulary and structural capabilities that enable the creation of new terms with distinct meanings.

Another key aspect of this study is identifying suitable root words from various Kurdish dialects, ensuring that newly coined terms for emerging concepts or borrowed elements are applicable across all dialects. The study underscores the importance of analyzing term-formation processes in Kurdish and determining the most effective methods that align with the language's inherent characteristics.

Additionally, the research advocates for a more dedicated effort in Kurdish linguistics to systematically develop new terms and address the language’s evolving needs. Utilizing a qualitative analytical approach, this study draws on both everyday spoken language and written sources, such as Hanbane Borina dictionary.
