Abstract

Online dating violence is a new form of violence perpetrated by persons in romantic relationship. the current study aimed to examine the function of empathy in the link between online dating violence and personality traits. The quantitative method was utilized, and the study's sample was purposeful and non- random, consisting of    Soran University students. The sample comprised 108 students, 51 boys, and 57 girls. Data were collected using four self- report measures. Firstly, dark trait scale was used to assess psychopath and narcissism traits. Second the Big Five Inventory, which includes questions on neuroticism, agreeableness, consciousness. The third empathy questioner and the last measurement was online dating violence. The results showed that personality traits generally effect the increase of online dating violence among study sample. As well as results indicated that personality traits indirectly through empathy variable effects of online dating violence. Empathy as an appropriate variable which has direct effect of online dating violence.  In spite of the positive role of social media on the social communication, it considers to be one of the risk factors of online dating violence between individuals in romantic relationship.
